Family schedules rarely stay simple. One morning might start with a school run, followed by work, groceries and an after-school activity. The weekend can mean extra passengers, sports bags, luggage or a longer drive out of town. A vehicle that can adjust to those different needs can make the routine easier to manage.
2026 Blue Kia Sorento Hybrid.
The new Kia Sorento PHEV is built around that type of flexibility. The plug-in hybrid SUV has three rows, six-passenger seating and adaptable cargo space. All three PHEV trims—LX, EX and SX—also come with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission.
Add an estimated 55 km of EV driving range, and families can use electric power for shorter trips while still having a gasoline engine available when the day's plans cover more distance.
Every Sorento PHEV seats six. That layout remains consistent across the LX, EX and SX trims.
The three-row cabin provides room for passengers while also giving families several ways to adjust the interior when cargo takes priority. The LX includes cloth upholstery and heated front seats, plus a power driver seat with two-way lumbar support.
The second row can slide, and the Easy Walk In function helps with access through the cabin. A remote fold feature for the second row adds another way to change the seating layout. The third row uses a 50:50 split-fold design, so families can adapt the rear area to the number of people and amount of cargo on board.
Passenger room is measurable across all three rows. PHEV second-row legroom is 1,024 mm, while the third row provides 752 mm. Headroom measures 1,024 mm in the front, 994 mm in row two, and 935 mm in row three.
Family cargo needs can change almost as often as the passenger count. Backpacks and groceries may fill the rear area during the week, while sports equipment or luggage can require a different setup on the weekend.
With all three rows in place, the Kia Sorento PHEV provides 357 litres of cargo volume behind the third row. Fold that row and available capacity behind the second row ranges from 1,090 to 1,274 litres, depending on the second-row seat position. With the rear seating folded, cargo volume behind the first row reaches 2,139 litres.
This gives a family several possible layouts. Six seats can remain available when everyone needs a ride, or part of the rear cabin can make way for larger items when fewer passengers come along. Standard roof rails add another practical exterior feature, and the LX PHEV also includes front and rear mud guards.
A typical family vehicle can make several separate trips in one day. School, work, appointments, activities and errands can all add kilometres to the schedule.
The Sorento PHEV combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged GDI four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 13.8-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The system produces a combined 268 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Its estimated EV driving range is 55 km. Kia also lists an estimated 3.8-hour charge time with 240-volt charging.
That electric range can suit some shorter daily routes, depending on distance and conditions. Once travel extends beyond available electric range, the gasoline component of the plug-in hybrid system remains part of the powertrain. Estimated fuel consumption is 6.9 L/100 km in gasoline-only operation and 2.8 Le/100 km in electricity-plus-gasoline mode. The PHEV has a 47-litre fuel tank.
Weather and road conditions can change throughout the year, and every Kia Sorento PHEV comes with Active On-Demand All-Wheel Drive. The PHEV also uses a six-speed automatic transmission. Drive Mode Select and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters are standard across the lineup.
Underneath, the Sorento uses a steel unibody structure, independent MacPherson struts up front, and a multi-link rear suspension. LX and EX trims use column-mounted motor-driven power steering, while the SX has rack-mounted motor-driven power steering.
All three PHEV trims have 19-inch wheels with 235/55R19 tires. PHEV ground clearance measures 176 mm.
A family can spend a lot of time in the vehicle over the course of a normal week, so small cabin features can become part of the everyday routine.
The LX PHEV comes with heated front seats and a leather steering wheel. Dual-zone climate control with auto defog lets the front occupants manage cabin temperature, while ventilation and heating ducts extend climate support farther into the vehicle. Rear console ventilation is standard, along with heating ducts for the second and third rows.
The EX changes the upholstery from cloth to artificial leather and adds a heated steering wheel. Move to the SX, and the cabin gets leather seats, a memory driver seat with four-way lumbar support, a driver-seat cushion extension, and a power passenger seat with two-way lumbar support.
The SX also includes ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. Manual rear-door sun blinds are also part of the SX equipment list.
Those trim differences let the basic six-seat layout stay the same while comfort equipment changes from one version to the next.
Phones, navigation and vehicle information often become part of the family routine before the vehicle even leaves the driveway.
The LX PHEV starts with a 12.3-inch multimedia interface. It includes AM/FM/MP3, HD Radio and satellite radio, along with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth.
Kia Connect is also standard, along with over-the-air software updates. Other features include a six-speaker audio system, Smart Key with push-button start, a front USB charging port and another USB charger in the luggage area. Kia Connect supports functions such as remote door lock and unlock, remote start with climate control, Find My Car and remote vehicle status checks. It also includes vehicle health and diagnostic functions.
For the PHEV, available connected functions include battery and charge status, charge controls and scheduled charge capability.
The EX adds a wireless phone charger. The SX expands the technology package further with a 12.3-inch multimedia interface with navigation and a 12.3-inch Supervision Cluster.
The SX also includes Digital Key 2, Bose premium sound, a full-display digital rear-view mirror with HomeLink, and a 110-volt A/C inverter.
School parking lots, busy streets, highways and crowded shopping areas can all be part of a normal family week. The Kia Sorento PHEV includes several driver-assistance features starting with the LX trim.
Standard equipment includes:
The LX also has nine airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, an anti-lock braking system, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Assist Control and Downhill Brake Control.
The SX adds several more systems, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2, Highway Driving Assist 2, Blind Spot View Monitor and Surround View Monitor. It also has Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse and front, side and rear Parking Distance Warning.
The EX PHEV sits between the LX and SX and adds several features that can fit naturally into a busy household.
A Smart Power Liftgate is standard on the EX. It also receives LED projection headlamps with Low Beam Assist and laminated front door glass.
Inside, artificial leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel and wireless phone charging separate the EX from the LX. It also includes trailer package pre-wiring and an electronic chromic mirror with HomeLink.
These changes build on the same six-passenger layout and PHEV powertrain found in the LX.
For families who want more equipment, the SX adds features throughout the vehicle rather than changing its basic purpose.
A panoramic sunroof, LED taillights, power-folding side mirrors and a rain sensor distinguish the exterior. Inside, the SX adds leather upholstery, upgraded front-seat adjustments, heated rear seats and ventilated front seats.
The additional camera and driver-assistance technology can also provide more information around the vehicle. Surround View Monitor offers a different perspective for parking situations, while Blind Spot View Monitor adds another visual aid.
All of this remains within the same six-passenger PHEV format as the LX and EX.
Some family plans require more than interior cargo space. The Sorento PHEV has a standard towing capacity of about 748 kg and a maximum trailer weight of approximately 907 kg when properly equipped.
Kia specifies that owners must not exceed vehicle weight ratings and must follow the towing instructions in the owner's manual.
The Sorento PHEV has a minimum curb weight of about 2,050 kg and a maximum of about 2,126 kg. Gross vehicle weight is about 2,650 kg.
The Kia Sorento PHEV approaches family transportation with a cabin that adapts as schedules change. Six seats provide space across three rows, while the sliding and folding rear seats create more cargo room when passenger needs decrease.
Its estimated 55 km EV range gives families an electric option for suitable shorter routes, while the gasoline engine remains available when the day involves more distance. Standard all-wheel drive is included across all three PHEV trims.
The LX covers the core family features with heated front seats, three-row seating, a 12.3-inch multimedia interface and a broad set of driver-assistance systems. The EX adds convenience features such as a Smart Power Liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and a wireless phone charger. The SX adds more comfort, display technology and driver-assistance equipment.
Whether the schedule calls for six passengers, a large cargo load or a mix of both, the Kia Sorento PHEV provides several ways to arrange the cabin around everyday family life.
