Built on the 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV3 shares its dedicated EV foundation with other electric vehicles in the Kia lineup. It also brings technology from the larger EV9 into a smaller SUV, including a panoramic display that spans nearly 30 inches.

The Kia EV3 offers two lithium-ion battery options. The Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh battery and front-wheel drive. Kia estimates a range of up to 356 km under ideal conditions.
Wind, Land, GT-Line and GT-Line Limited trims use the larger 81.4 kWh battery. In front-wheel-drive form, this battery provides a Kia-estimated range of up to 517 km under ideal conditions.
Actual electric range can vary due to factors such as temperature, road conditions, driving habits and cargo. That makes the two battery choices useful for drivers with different routines.

For someone whose week consists mainly of local trips and regular commutes, the standard battery is a good fit. Drivers who cover greater distances can choose the larger battery.
Charging time can affect how easily an electric vehicle fits into a busy schedule. The EV3 supports DC fast charging with both battery sizes.
Under ideal conditions, the 58.3 kWh battery is designed to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 29 minutes. The 81.4 kWh battery is designed to complete the same 10-to-80-percent recharge in approximately 31 minutes.
The EV3 also comes with a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. The charge port sits on the front passenger side of the vehicle.
That passenger-side location can be useful with on-street charging infrastructure. It places the connection on the curb side when the vehicle parks in the usual direction of traffic, depending on the charger and parking arrangement.

Behind the rear seats, the cargo area provides 740 litres of capacity. The 60/40 flat-folding rear seats allow the passenger and cargo areas to adapt when larger items need extra room.
A standard two-position luggage board adds another level of flexibility. It also provides access to underfloor storage, which can keep smaller items separate from the main cargo area.
The EV3 adds a 25-litre front trunk, or frunk. This extra compartment provides another place for items that do not need to occupy the rear cargo area.

Available Vehicle-to-Load functionality, or V2L, allows the EV3 battery to supply power to compatible external devices.

The EV3 introduces i-Pedal 3.0, the latest version of Kia one-pedal driving technology.
The system lets the driver control vehicle speed through the accelerator pedal and can bring the EV3 to a complete stop without using the brake pedal under appropriate conditions. It works alongside adaptive Smart Regenerative Braking to help recapture energy.
Two updates expand the function of i-Pedal 3.0. The system can now operate in reverse, and an i-Pedal Memory function restores the last-used setting after the vehicle restarts.
These changes let the driver keep a preferred setting rather than selecting it again after each restart.
Regenerative braking remains part of the broader electric driving experience, with the system designed to recover energy as vehicle speed decreases.
